Oak Grove, MS (June 26th) – Crescent City headed up north to Oak Grove, MS to take on Southern States SC in some midseason friendly action yesterday evening. Both squads using this game to give their younger players some minutes, the contest would end 3-2 in favor of the home team.
The starting XI would see five U23 players see some action for the NOLA squad and few vets to help anchor the defense and midfield. Southern States would jump on the board first with an early goal in the 7th minute after some miscommunication in the backline. Much of the game would play in favor of the home squad as CCFC tried to find its rhythm in the contest. After some minor adjustments from assistant coach Al Silvas, who filled in as the manager for the evening, CCFC became more dangerous in the attacking front. This would pay off late in the first half when 18 year old, Alexander Blanche, would find the back of the net from a cross, sending the game 1-1 into half time.
The second half started off with a bit of a momentum swing for CCFC, having a few looks early on, but nothing threatening. Southern States would see an end to that with their second goal of the evening coming in the 56th minute. CCFC’s second half substitutions would make a big impact early, giving the New Orleans club some much needed attacking prowess, but the home team would catch CCFC sleeping on a counter attack, putting SSSC up 3-1. The last 20 minutes of the contest was all CCFC with a slew of chances, a crossbar check, a missed penalty and an incredible performance from the SSSC keeper that would keep the NOLA club at bay, closing out the game 3-2.
Crescent City FC will host New Orleans United at Holy Cross Field (5500 Paris Ave) on July 3rd for 7:15 PM kickoff. Tickets and season passes for CCFC home games can be purchased here.
