Crescent City rallies back after a rough start

New Orleans, LA (June 3rd) – After being away from the pitch for 11 days, the boys squared up with new cross town club, New Orleans United, on Wednesday afternoon. After a very shaky start, CCFC were able to settle in to get the result.

“This was a game we knew would give us trouble,” said Head Coach, Wilmer Peralta “They [New Orleans United] are a very eager and up and coming team and they made us earn every minute of this game.”

Since the start of the whistle, New Orleans United made it clear that they weren’t going to give Crescent City any space to operate in their half of the field; playing a high line and keeping CCFC in their defensive third. Throughout the first half, many attempts to test the quickness of the United backline were had, but to no avail. Young keeper, Jacob Randolph, was called to duty early and did his part to keep the game level throughout the first half, but the boys would fall short in first half stoppage time when United capitalized on a corner kick just before the whistle putting the home squad up 1-0.

The second half saw an adjustment to Crescent City’s XI with Marce coming on for Cristian Canales at right back. The inclusion of the veteran defender would prove to be a critical adjustment, taking away United’s only real attacking threat. This would allow CCFC to push their line up further and increase the amount of accurate through balls for the attackers to capitalize on. In the 50th minute, Chuy would make a critical run that would result in a penalty, which the league leading goal scorer would add his sixth to the tally, putting the away crew back in the game 1-1.

Shortly after in the 52nd minute, Huber Lopez would connect with Josey Portillo who pleased the crowd with a 30 yard chip over the keeper to give CCFC the 2-1 lead. Keeper, Jacob Randolph, would be called up again in the 65th minute after a mix up in the box from a United corner forced the New Orleans native to quickly react from point blank range. The third goal of the contest for CCFC would come from some fancy footwork from Marce down the right side, setting Mesa Muminovic up for his second goal of the season. Nestor Peralta Jr., who’s coming off of a year long ACL injury recovery, finally got on the board in the 89th minute of the game; sealing the deal for the evening with a 4-1 victory.
