Club statement regarding 2020 season

Today, the Gulf Coast Premier League announced the cancellation of the 2020 summer season due to the COVID19 pandemic. We understand that the safety of all players, staff, referees and supporters, is priority number one and fully support their decision.

“We really tried to find a way to make it work this season and get the players back out on the field,” GCPL Executive Director Sean Esker said. “Ultimately, the decision comes down to the safety and well being for our players, club staff, referees and supporters. With stay at home orders from Louisiana being extended, this put half of our clubs in jeopardy of preparing properly for a season.”

Although the GCPL has cancelled, the club will be in collaboration with other clubs in the gulf coast region exploring the possibility of an exhibition schedule for June and July. The club’s exhibition game in August versus Chattanooga FC, in Chattanooga, is currently still scheduled as planned.

“We are still moving forward with our training schedule beginning mid May, and will be looking to lock in a few friendlies with some GCPL and NPSL clubs.” said club GM Jonathan Rednour, “Our intentions are to be as active as our state and city’s guidelines permit.”
