New Orleans, LA (June 24th) – On a very muggy evening at Berhman Stadium in Gretna, LA, Crescent City FC faced off versus BRSC Capitals where the New Orleans club would see their first multiple goal deficit of the season, needing the heroics of forward Chuy Rivera to save a point in stoppage time.
The evening started off with a clear objective for BRSC Capitals as they put 9 players behind the ball with a bend but don’t break tactic that clearly paid off as the traveling squad executed a counter attack nicely in the 6th minute of the contest, putting CCFC in an early hole losing 1-0. The game would continue to favor Crescent City in possession and even saw a few chances from winger Josey Portillo who had two 1v1 opportunities saved by some stellar defensive hustle from BRSC, but once again Crescent City’s defense would be exposed on the counter and BRSC would find themselves up 2-0 before the 25th minute. Continuing the efforts to keep the game in BRSC’s half, CCFC would see a break after a penalty was awarded and converted, adding another goal to Mesa Muminovic’s tally. The first half would end 2-1 BRSC Capitals.
Trailing by one starting the second half, CCFC would continue to push high up the field with the intention of keeping the pressure on the BRSC back line. The first 10 minutes of the second half would see 5 shots on frame for the home crew, adding to the momentum of getting one back. However, in the 67th minute BRSC would catch CCFC on the counter for the third time in the contest, putting themselves up by two goals once again. With the thought of the club’s first loss of the season setting in over the crowd, a glimmer of hope came from Fernando Herrera in the 74th minute with a beautiful free kick from 30 yards out, giving a much needed boost for CCFC. Coach Peralta then made his final adjustments to put all of his attacking power in positions to salvage a point. The final ten minutes of the contest was all Crescent City and the efforts finally paid off in the dying minutes when Chuy Rivera found his opening inside the BRSC 18, burying his 8th goal of the season.
