CCFC gets it done in a chippy performance vs New Orleans United

New Orleans, LA (July 4th) – Entering the contest, CCFC had already qualified for the GCPL playoffs, but the race to claim the top seed and home field advantage was on with a handful of clubs in the mix.

New Orleans United were coming off of a two game win streak with a small chance at making playoffs with a result vs CCFC. This added a little more to this contest with both teams going all out from the whistle. The first 20 minutes of the contest had both teams buzzing with neither producing any real threats. The 25th minute saw the first real chance from CCFC with Mesa Muminovic just missing wide after taking on two players at the top of the box. CCFC would get on the board in the 38th after some brilliant display of control and technique from Huber Lopez who would find Mesa Muminovic at the back post to put the home team up 1-0 before the half.

CCFC didn’t wait long in the second half jumping on top of New Orleans United and forcing their keeper to come up with a big save in the 48th minute, which lead to a corner kick resulting in big man Anthony Peters heading home his second goal of the season. Leading 2-0 early in the second half, CCFC continued to put the pressure on, but a dangerous counter attack from New Orleans United and some miscommunication from the CCFC back line gave the away squad their first and only goal of the contest. The final 30 minutes of the game became quite chippy with both squads battling to see the game out. CCFC would come away with a 2-1 win and inched closer to gaining the #1 seed for the playoffs.
