Jackson, MS – (May 10th) Crescent City FC secured 3 points on the road in Jackson, MS this past Saturday, but not without much resistance.
CCFC started off strong, controlling much of the possession in the first 10 minutes of the contest. The first goal came in the 10th minute with Josey Portillo finding space down the right side then sending a perfect cross across the 18 connecting with Meša Muminović who would head it home to put the traveling squad up 1-0. The second goal would follow shortly after in the 14th minute when Josey Portillo drew a foul in Gaffa’s box, resulting in a penalty that would be put away by Chuy Rivera giving CCFC a 2 goal advantage.
“I was very pleased with how we started the game,” said Head Coach, Wilmer Peralta. “We didn’t waste much time knocking off the rust and finding our rhythm.”
The remainder of the first half would see CCFC continuing to keep much of the possession with either team threatening the opposing keeper.
Gaffa’s first goal would come 10 minutes in the second half when the Jackson club’s midfielder struck a scorching 30+ yard shot that would be too much for the CCFC keeper to keep out of the net. Shortly after Gaffa’s attempt to find their way back in the contest, in the 65th minute Huber Lopez and Chuy Rivera would connect for Crescent City’s third goal, Chuy’s second on the night.
The 76th minute saw the CCFC defense sleeping after some nice combo play saw the Gaffa midfielder bury home his second on the evening, putting the home team within 1 goal to draw. The 86th minute gave the New Orleans boys a scare when goalkeeper Lalo Salazar was called on to make a diving save to help secure 3 points on the road. 3-2 victory for the Nola boys.
“The boys put in some great effort for our first game,” said team captain, Anthony Peters. “But we have a lot that we need to work on to make sure we don’t put ourselves in these late minute scares moving forward.”
Crescent City FC will host their first home game next Saturday vs. Pensacola FC at Holy Cross High School (5500 Parive Ave). Tickets and season passes can be purchased here.
