Hattiesburg, MS (May 29th, 2022) – After coming off a rough loss in the season home opener last weekend, CCFC’s trip to Hattiesburg Saturday evening continued the misery for the NOLA crew with a shocking 8-0 loss.
“These are those games you never want to be a part of, especially on the receiving end,” said Matt Millet. “There’s no excuse for tonight. If we don’t address our glaring issues ASAP, this will be a long season.”
For the second week in a row the crescent city outfit came out flat and gave away an early goal, this one coming in the 3rd minute. What followed should be called nothing short of an absolute routing. The home side pounced on every opportunity from the inconsistent play of CCFC and made the traveling pay dearly. In the 19th minute, HFC would bag another goal after a bad pass in the midfield giving the home side a clear counter attacking chance. The 29th minute would see the 3rd goal fall after a poor clearance from the back line. CCFC’s attacking woes continued with some chances late in the first half coming from much better possession and settled control, but the mistiming of the final third runs offered no real threat. The half ended 3-0 to the home team.
The second offered no relief for the traveling side after a tactical and personnel change from the coaching staff. For a moment, CCFC were finding success in possession and advancing up the pitch, but HFC did what it was capitalizing on all evening, which was poor distribution from the backline, offering a slew of golden opportunities for the home crew. The fourth goal came in the 59th minute, followed by the next 4 from the 68th through the 89th. Not much is there to write about the performance in the final minutes. The game would end 8-0. CCFC’s worst defeat since forming as a club.
